A few days ago I was featured in the GitHub README’s Project Community QA on when to replace legacy software. It was great conversation with Mike Melanson at GitHub about nerdy software things.

Imagineering got permission to try something more ambitious than anything they have tried before. Armed with the rich history of Star Wars and a budget that only Disney provides, they created an experience that takes everything people love about the parks and dialed it up to eleven. If you love Star Wars, games, and Disney rides, you will not regret two days on the Halcyon. If you are less familiar with Star Wars, you will find things to enjoy, but Galactic Starcruiser’s controversially high price point means this will not be worth it for you.

• The Shameful Open Secret Behind Southwest’s Failure is a good explanation of technical debt and the role it played in this past week’s airline meltdown.
• Glass Onion was a fun watch on Netflix. Directed by Rian Johnson of The Last Jedi. Keep an eye out for the TED cameos.
• How to Tame Your Wandering Mind was one of my most influential TED talks of 2022. I increased my use of Headspace to 15 minutes in the morning and now it’s easier to focus on debugging my code.
• How to Write Less but Say More along with its accompanying book helped me re-think how to write this blog. The data shows you all enjoy the punchier style with more bullets and headers than my rambling. Though I promise there is a longer form piece coming soon.

Scripture tells us to run with endurance the race that is set before us. As a runner I know that means preparing for the expected, but being ready for the unexpected. 2022 did not end up being what I expected.

The Vergecast Bluetooth Holiday Spectacular was nerdy but had an interesting interview with the former Executive Director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. He provided context around how the bluetooth standard develops and what might come in the future.
