And the more we lived with that decision, the more we felt strongly that our own platform should be an antidote to algorithmic newsfeeds, an editorial product made by actual people with intent and expertise. The Verge’s homepage is the single most popular page at Vox Media, and it should be a statement about what the internet can be at its best.
So we sat down and thought about what was really important to us and how to make our homepage valuable every time you open it. We also thought about where we came from and how we built The Verge into what it is today. And we landed on: well shit, we just need to blog more.
It recently feels like I spent more time logging in to websites and applications than at any point of my life as a computer user. I first started to notice this issue when Google began logging me out of Gmail every week. Searching revealed there is no way to escape the 14 day session limit. I switched to Apple Mail as a result and despite it not being as good as Gmail, I am happier.

Read MoreI was off traveling last week and missed working with the teams, but returned on Tuesday evening to work with our Urban League Heat Pump Accelerator group. Despite my absence I was excited to hear most groups continued to make forward progress. Working with the backend team I reviewed the code they submitted. I also created a fresh server on Amazon Web Services where the application will live. One of our group members will do the work of setting that server up. In a couple weeks when the first version of the application is alive, we will have a place for it to go!
