I am on the train to Boston from Providence and glad I spent the past few days at RubyConf Mini. Today we learned about peephole optimizations in compilers, functional programming in Ruby, and class macros. While I did not fully grok all the technical presentations, I enjoyed seeing aspects of Ruby that I have not explored.

Day two of RubyConf Mini was action packed. Nadia Odunayo hit a home run with her morning keynote. As the founder and sole developer of Storygraph she shared a Ruby mystery with the crowd. A fitting genre to be delivered with a British accent.

RubyConf Mini Day 1

I am at RubyConf Mini and it has been a good learning experience. John Hawthorne gave a master class on optimizing something in the Ruby programming language in his presentation on making is_a? fast. Stephanie Minn taught us how to pair program with non-violent communication. Finally Brown Professor Barbara Tannenbaum gave us a crash course in effective communication.

The Fall of Cryptocurrencies

Last week cryptocurrency exchange FTX filed for bankruptcy. As of yesterday there now appears to be a bank run on Crypto.com, another exchange. This comes on the heels of a decline of cryptocurrency values.
