Recently one of my friends asked what app I was using for calculation and I replied Soulver 3. This not well known enough Mac only app makes it easy to combine calculations with context.

Watching shows, especially movies at home, can be a frustrating experience these days. For many shows I find myself turning up the volume to understand the dialog. Then an action scene or commercial will nearly blow out my speakers with an aggressive sound level. I have often found myself turning the volume up and down throughout a show.

Yesterday I spent nearly three and a half hours in an IMAX movie theater with a good chunk of Boston to experience James Cameron’s latest Avatar movie. Many years after the original film I had little memory of the characters or plot line, but my trips to Disney World last year helped me have some context for the new movie. The good news is you do not need a history lesson to enjoy the symphony of special effects that you are sitting down to enjoy. Way of the Water is a movie designed to tickle your retinas, not your brain.

• Speaking of David Letterman, I was surprised and excited to see he is hosting a U2 special on Disney+ on St. Patrick’s Day.
